Treatment Emphasis
The focus of my practice is in the area of adolescent youth, children, and family. For the last three years I’ve also worked with adults as individuals or couples. The issues I treat are from families with special needs children to marital problems. My experience in working with families comes from 8 years of work in residential facilities in Arkansas, Texas, and Washington. I’ve provided therapy in the public school system and residential work for children and adults with disabilities. The issues I treat (but not limited to) are: depression, anxiety, behavior issues, anger management, communication problems, ADD/ADHD, school problems, parenting skills, divorce, blended families.
Treatment Philosophy/Message to prospective patients
My approach is primarily systems and narrative. A person is not in a bubble; therefore, how they affect and are affected by their relationships is an important part of therapy. As a result of the years of work in residential programs, I regularly incorporate Cognitive/Behavioral therapy as the need arises. Depending on the age of the client, I have a format I follow to promote the best possible course to setting and meeting goals. All first sessions are intake sessions to gather background information and to gain an idea of the client’s expectations. I encourage the first three sessions to happen within the first three weeks. In my experience these three sessions will help build a healthy rapport and assist me in developing a greater perspective of the person and their problem. From that point, the frequency of the sessions will be determined by the need of the client.
Hobbies & Interests
I am an avid golfer; my handicap may not show it, but the smile on my face when I play is indication enough. I enjoy the outdoors very much and prior to my graduate program I was employed by the US forest service for 5 years as a wildland firefighter.
